Job Overview

The Disaster Risk Reduction Coordinator will lead initiatives to mitigate the impact of natural disasters, strengthen community preparedness, and integrate climate adaptation strategies into national policies. This role requires collaboration with government agencies, NGOs, and international stakeholders to build Eswatini’s resilience to environmental and socio-economic shocks.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement disaster risk reduction (DRR) strategies aligned with national and international frameworks.
• Conduct vulnerability assessments and risk mapping for climate-related and geological hazards.
• Coordinate training programs for local authorities and communities on emergency response and recovery.
• Facilitate stakeholder engagement to integrate DRR into urban planning and infrastructure projects.
• Monitor and report on disaster risk trends, contributing to policy recommendations for sustainable development.

Required Skills

• Expertise in disaster risk assessment, climate adaptation, and crisis management.
• Proven ability to design and manage multi-sectoral projects in complex environments.
• Strong stakeholder coordination skills with government, NGOs, and international partners.
• Proficiency in GIS mapping and data analysis tools (e.g., QGIS, ArcGIS).
• Excellent communication and report writing capabilities in English and local languages.

Education

• Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Public Policy, International Development, or related field.
• Certifications in disaster risk management (e.g., FAO, IFRC) are advantageous.

Experience

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience in disaster risk reduction, climate resilience, or public sector development.
• Previous work in Southern Africa or Eswatini is a strong plus.

Salary

3,200 – 4,800 Swazi Lilangeni (SSP) per month, commensurate with experience.
