Job Overview
The Public Policy Analyst will support UNDP’s efforts to design, evaluate, and advocate for evidence‑based policies that advance the SDGs in Eswatini. Working closely with senior policymakers, researchers, and stakeholders, the analyst will conduct rigorous policy analysis, draft briefing notes, and facilitate multi‑stakeholder dialogues. The position requires a strong grasp of the local political and socioeconomic context, as well as the ability to translate complex data into actionable recommendations. This role is central to UNDP’s strategy of influencing policy reforms that drive inclusive economic growth, environmental sustainability, and social equity.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive policy research and analysis on priority sectors such as health, education, climate resilience, and economic diversification.
- Prepare policy briefs, position papers, and technical reports for government ministries, donors, and civil society partners.
- Facilitate stakeholder workshops, round‑tables, and public consultations to gather input and build consensus.
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of existing policies, providing data‑driven recommendations for improvement.
- Collaborate with UNDP country team to align policy initiatives with the broader SDG framework and funding cycles.
- Support the development of policy advocacy strategies, including media engagement and public communication.
- Maintain an up‑to‑date repository of legislative documents, research publications, and best‑practice case studies.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with proficiency in statistical software (e.g., STATA, SPSS) and data visualization tools.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities in English; proficiency in SiSwati is an advantage.
- Demonstrated experience in policy formulation, stakeholder engagement, and advocacy.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a fast‑paced environment.
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity.
Education
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy, Economics, Political Science, International Development, or a related field is required. A Master’s degree or relevant professional certifications (e.g., PMP, CPA) are considered a strong asset.
Experience
Applicants should have 3‑5 years of relevant experience in policy analysis, research, or advisory roles within government agencies, NGOs, think‑tanks, or international development organizations. Experience working in Eswatini or the Southern African region is highly desirable.
Salary
