Job Overview
The Water Treatment Plant Operations Manager will lead the day‑to‑day operations of Veolia’s flagship treatment facility in Matsapha. This role is critical for ensuring that water quality meets regulatory standards, optimizing plant performance, and driving continuous improvement initiatives. The manager will oversee a multidisciplinary team, manage budgets, and collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and regulatory bodies to deliver reliable water services to the community. Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate all operational activities of the water treatment plant, ensuring compliance with Eswatini water quality regulations.
- Monitor plant performance metrics, analyze data, and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce operational costs.
- Lead a team of operators, technicians, and support staff, providing coaching, performance feedback, and professional development.
- Develop and manage the plant’s annual operating budget, track expenditures, and report financial performance to senior management.
- Ensure preventive and corrective maintenance programs are executed on schedule to minimize downtime.
- Collaborate with engineering and project teams on upgrades, expansions, and new technology deployments.
- Prepare and submit regulatory reports, incident logs, and compliance documentation to the Ministry of Natural Resources.
- Respond to emergencies, including system failures or contamination events, and coordinate rapid response actions.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of water treatment processes, including coagulation, filtration, disinfection, and sludge management.
- Proficiency in SCADA systems, PLC programming, and data analytics tools for process monitoring.
- Excellent leadership and team‑building abilities with a focus on safety culture.
- Effective budgeting, cost‑control, and resource allocation skills.
- Ability to interpret and apply local and international water quality standards.
- Strong communication skills for stakeholder engagement and report preparation.

Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications in water treatment (e.g., Certified Water Technologist) or a Master’s degree are considered an advantage.
Experience
Minimum of five years of progressive experience in water treatment plant operations, with at least two years in a supervisory or managerial role. Experience in a regulated environment and familiarity with Eswatini’s water sector regulations are highly desirable.
Salary
The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 250,000 to 350,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based incentives and annual bonuses are part of the compensation package.
