Job Overview
This role focuses on designing and implementing urban resilience strategies to mitigate climate change impacts. The specialist will collaborate with local governments, NGOs, and communities to develop sustainable urban frameworks. Key initiatives include flood risk management, green infrastructure planning, and climate adaptation policies tailored to Eswatini’s unique environmental context.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct climate vulnerability assessments for urban areas in Nhlangano and surrounding regions.
- Design climate adaptation plans integrating green infrastructure, water management, and sustainable land use.
- Collaborate with municipal authorities to align projects with national climate action goals.
- Lead community workshops to educate stakeholders on climate resilience strategies.
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and funding proposals for international climate financing programs.
Required Skills
- Expertise in climate modeling software (e.g., GIS, ArcGIS, Climate Resilience Toolkit).
- Proven experience in urban planning with a focus on climate adaptation.
- Strong analytical skills for assessing environmental risks and proposing mitigation measures.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
- Fluency in Eswatini’s national languages (SiSwati and English).
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Environmental Science, Geography, or related field.
- Master’s Degree preferred, with coursework in climate change adaptation or sustainable development.
Experience
- 3-5 years of experience in urban resilience or climate adaptation projects.
- Previous work in Sub-Saharan Africa or similar climatic regions is advantageous.
Salary
120,000 – 150,000 SSP annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
