Job Overview
The Maintenance Engineer will be responsible for ensuring the reliability and optimal performance of Caterpillar’s equipment fleet at the Matsapha service centre. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance schedules for all heavy‑equipment units.
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults using diagnostic tools and technical manuals.
- Lead a team of technicians, providing guidance, training, and performance feedback.
- Coordinate with parts inventory to ensure timely availability of critical components.
- Document all maintenance activities in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
- Conduct root‑cause analysis on recurring failures and propose engineering improvements.
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations on the shop floor.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and heavy‑equipment mechanics.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings and schematics.
- Excellent problem‑solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Effective leadership and team‑building skills.
- Familiarity with CMMS software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Good communication skills in English; proficiency in SiSwati is an advantage.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Candidates with recognized engineering diplomas combined with extensive hands‑on experience will also be considered.
Experience
Applicants must have 3‑5 years of proven experience in maintenance engineering within a manufacturing, mining, or heavy‑equipment environment. Experience with Caterpillar equipment is highly desirable.
Salary
