Job Overview

The Telecommunications Network Planning Engineer will play a pivotal role in designing, optimizing, and expanding MTN Eswatini’s radio access network (RAN) across the Kingdom, including underserved rural areas such as Bulembu. The role involves detailed planning, capacity forecasting, and coordination with cross‑functional teams to ensure seamless rollout of 4G and upcoming 5G services. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain detailed radio network plans, including site selection, frequency allocation, and capacity modeling.
  • Perform drive‑test analysis, coverage simulations, and performance audits to identify optimization opportunities.
  • Collaborate with RF engineers, civil teams, and procurement to ensure timely delivery of network assets.
  • Prepare technical specifications, cost estimates, and implementation schedules for new sites and upgrades.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and generate regular reports for senior management.
  • Support the rollout of 5G pilot projects and evaluate emerging technologies for future network evolution.
  • Ensure compliance with national regulatory standards and MTN Group best practices.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in network planning tools such as Atoll, Planet, or Mentum.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret RF data and drive strategic decisions.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Knowledge of LTE, 4G, and emerging 5G technologies.
  • Project management experience, including budgeting and timeline control.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications in RF planning or project management are considered an advantage.

Experience

Applicants should have a minimum of three to five years of hands‑on experience in telecom network planning, preferably within a mobile operator environment. Experience with rural network deployments and spectrum management is highly valued.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary range of SSP 30,000 to 45,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based incentives and annual bonuses are part of the total compensation package.
