Job Overview
We are currently seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Metallurgical Engineer to join our technical leadership team in Matsapha. This critical role is designed for a professional who possesses deep technical expertise in hydrometallurgical and pyrometallurgical processes. The successful candidate will be responsible for optimizing mineral recovery rates, reducing reagent consumption, and overseeing the technical integrity of our processing plants. This position is vital for our continuous improvement initiatives and plays a key role in ensuring our operations remain competitive and environmentally compliant. As we expand our capacity, this role will involve significant strategic planning and the implementation of cutting-edge extraction technologies to maximize resource efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and optimization of metallurgical processes to maximize mineral recovery and concentrate quality.
- Conduct detailed mass and energy balance calculations to identify inefficiencies in the processing circuit.
- Oversee pilot plant testing and scale-up operations for new mineral processing technologies.
- Collaborate with the geological and mining teams to ensure ore characteristics are aligned with plant capabilities.
- Monitor plant performance metrics and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and reagent waste.
- Manage metallurgical accounting and ensure high levels of accuracy in production reporting.
- Drive sustainability initiatives by reducing the environmental footprint of chemical processing and tailings management.

- Deep understanding of flotation, leaching, and smelting technologies.

Education
A Master of Science (MSc) in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related field is mandatory. A Bachelor’s degree alone will not be considered for this senior-level position.
Experience
Candidates must demonstrate a minimum of 7 to 10 years of progressive experience in mineral processing, specifically within large-scale mining operations. Proven experience in process optimization and leading technical teams is essential. Experience in the Southern African mining sector is highly advantageous.
Salary
The annual remuneration package for this position ranges from 450,000 SSP to 680,000 SSP, depending on the candidate’s specific expertise and technical certifications.
