Job Overview
The Construction Safety Compliance Officer will lead safety initiatives for Bechtel’s upcoming mixed‑use development in Big Bend. This role ensures that all construction activities comply with local regulations, international safety standards, and Bechtel’s internal policies. The officer will collaborate with project managers, subcontractors, and local authorities to foster a zero‑incident culture.

Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor site‑specific safety plans aligned with SSP occupational health regulations.
- Conduct regular safety audits, inspections, and risk assessments across all construction zones.
- Provide safety training and toolbox talks for workers, supervisors, and subcontractors.
- Investigate incidents, near‑misses, and accidents; produce detailed reports and corrective action plans.
- Maintain accurate safety documentation, including permits, logs, and compliance certificates.
- Coordinate with local regulatory bodies to ensure timely submission of safety filings.
- Lead emergency response drills and ensure availability of appropriate safety equipment.
- Advise project leadership on safety‑related budgeting and resource allocation.
Required Skills
- In‑depth knowledge of Eswatini occupational health and safety legislation.
- Proficiency in safety management software (e.g., Procore, SafetyCulture).
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for multicultural teams.
- Ability to lead training sessions and engage frontline workers.
- Certification such as OSHA 30‑hour, NEBOSH, or equivalent preferred.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications or a Master’s degree are advantageous.
Experience
Minimum five years of progressive experience in construction safety, with a proven track record of reducing incident rates on large‑scale projects. Experience in the Southern African construction market is highly valued.
Salary
The role offers a competitive monthly salary ranging from SSP 25,000 to SSP 35,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and allowances for travel and accommodation are included.
