Job Overview
The Chief Data Privacy Officer (CDPO) will lead the development, implementation, and oversight of the company’s data privacy strategy across all business units. Reporting directly to the Chief Risk Officer, the CDPO will ensure compliance with the Eswatini Data Protection Act, international standards such as GDPR, and industry‑specific regulations. This senior leadership position involves shaping policies, conducting privacy impact assessments, and fostering a culture of privacy awareness throughout the organization. The CDPO will also serve as the primary liaison with regulators, auditors, and external partners, providing expert guidance on data handling practices.
In this role, you will collaborate closely with IT, legal, compliance, and business teams to embed privacy by design into products and services. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive data privacy framework aligned with local and international regulations.
- Conduct privacy impact assessments for new products, services, and technology initiatives.
- Lead the response to data breach incidents, including investigation, reporting, and remediation.
- Advise senior management and business units on privacy risks and mitigation strategies.
- Establish and deliver ongoing privacy awareness and training programs for all employees.
- Monitor legislative changes and emerging privacy trends to proactively update policies.
- Coordinate with the legal department to draft and review data processing agreements and contracts.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for data protection authorities and external auditors.
- Implement metrics and reporting mechanisms to track privacy compliance across the organization.
- Promote a culture of privacy by design throughout product development cycles.
Required Skills
- Deep knowledge of the Eswatini Data Protection Act, GDPR, and other relevant privacy regulations.
- Proven experience in leading privacy programs within the insurance or financial services sector.
- Strong analytical and risk assessment capabilities.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to translate complex legal requirements into practical business processes.
- Experience with data mapping, classification, and data lifecycle management.
- Leadership experience managing cross‑functional teams.
- Certification such as CIPP/E, CIPM, or equivalent is highly desirable.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Law, Information Security, Computer Science, or a related discipline is required. A Master’s degree or professional certifications in privacy and data protection are strongly preferred to demonstrate advanced expertise.
Experience
Minimum of ten years of progressive experience in data privacy, information security, or compliance, with at least five years in a senior leadership role within the insurance or financial services industry.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from SSP 120,000 to SSP 180,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses and a comprehensive benefits suite.
