Job Overview
The Hydrogen Fuel Cell Engineer will lead the design, testing, and optimization of fuel cell modules for a range of applications, including transport fleets, stationary power units, and off‑grid solutions. This role reports to the Head of Renewable Energy Projects and collaborates closely with cross‑functional teams in R&D, manufacturing, and project management. The successful candidate will drive innovation, ensure compliance with international standards, and contribute to Shell’s vision of a net‑zero future. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the end‑to‑end engineering design of hydrogen fuel cell systems, from concept through prototype to production.
- Conduct performance testing, data analysis, and reliability assessments to meet efficiency targets.
- Develop and maintain detailed technical documentation, specifications, and validation reports.
- Collaborate with suppliers to source high‑quality components and ensure supply chain integrity.
- Provide technical support for field installations and troubleshoot operational issues.
- Ensure all designs comply with safety regulations, industry standards, and Shell’s internal quality procedures.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge‑sharing initiatives within the department.
- Participate in stakeholder meetings, presenting technical findings to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA) and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS, COMSOL).
- Strong understanding of electrochemical processes, thermodynamics, and fluid dynamics.
- Experience with hydrogen storage, compression, and safety systems.
- Project management capabilities and ability to meet tight deadlines.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and analytical mindset.
- Effective communication skills in English; knowledge of siSwati is a plus.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced degrees (M.Sc. or Ph.D.) in fuel cell technology or renewable energy are highly desirable and will be considered an asset during the selection process.
Experience
Applicants must have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in fuel cell design, testing, or related hydrogen technologies. Experience working in a multinational energy company or a research institution focused on clean energy will be viewed favorably.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from SSP 250,000 to SSP 350,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. In addition to the base salary, performance‑based bonuses and long‑term incentive plans are available.
